[QUERY] is auth via `AzureCliCredential` intended to work with `dotnet watch` hot reloads?

Azure.Identity 1.6.0
Query/Question
I’m not sure if this is a bug, or known behavior, or which repo would be the appropriate place to put it, so I’m formatting it as a question here for now. Happy to move this to the dotnet/sdk
repo or convert to a proper bug report if desired.
When running my ASP.NET 6 api project with dotnet watch
, I get authentication failures when using the AzureCliCredential
auth method on my local machine, which prevents it from serving requests. The thrown exception is as follows:
Unhandled exception. Azure.Identity.AuthenticationFailedException: Azure CLI authentication timed out.

However, when running the project through dotnet watch --no-hot-reload
, it works just fine, including across cold reloads/full restarts when a file changes.
Is this a known behavior or unsupported use case?

It’s hard to say without some additional information, but ideally we could isolate this to a simpler repro to see what exactly is failing. I’d be curious if you could create a simple app that launches a sub-process that has standard output and standard error redirected like we do for these process based credentials. Assuming you can reproduce it without the SDK in the mix, I would open an issue in the runtime repo with those details.
@christothes @schaabs finally circling back to this, and I narrowed down the cause. I use Git Bash as my terminal of choice, and this exception only occurs when running
dotnet watch
in that. The issue doesn’t occur when using Windows CMD or PowerShell, for example. No need to reopen this particular issue, but I’d like to open a new one now that the cause is better known. Would this still be considered a problem for
azure-sdk-for-net
to solve? If not, any idea where the right place to report this is?
