Failure using compose with 1.0.0-SNAPSHOT

I faced this issue without using compose. Manage to get to the next error with the next snippet
The JDK 18 failure is caused by this method using a workaround for overwriting a static final field that only works until JDK 12. For compatibility with Java 12 and above, the new workaround is here. I’ll send a PR on Sunday if nobody else beats me to it.
