How do you --amend?

to amend a commit message? It does not seem to be handling extra arguments.
$ git status
On branch master
Your branch is ahead of 'origin/master' by 1 commit.
(use "git push" to publish your local commits)
nothing to commit, working directory clean
$ git-cz -a --amend
[...]
✗ Commit failed. Did you forget to 'git add' your files?
