Problem logging into Runkeeper

See original GitHub issue

I receive There was a problem logging you into Runkeeper: 'userID' when trying to connect runkeeper. Have tried deleting tapiriik and re-adding it on runkeeper. Any ideas what this can be about?

I wrote to RunKeeper saying:

I am using a quite popular service called Tapiirik to sync activities between different apps and services - e.g RK, Strava and Garmin Connect (in total I use 5 services). This works pretty seamless - and has done so for years, until some time late last year, when there started to be trouble syncing with Runkeeper.

The Tapiirik-developer claims this is due to rate limiting. Could you consider increasing the rate limit in the case of Tapiirik? If not I think I will abandon RunKeeper completely - which is sad after so many years …

Please let me know what you decide.

I got the following response:

Thanks for reaching out to Runkeeper Support! I’m so sorry for the trouble. It’s true that the syncing issue you’re experiencing is likely due to a platform change our developers recently made that affects the amount of data that can be exchanged between Runkeeper and other third-party apps. This was done to protect our servers from being overloaded and to be able to maintain high quality performance of the app.

Really sorry for the news, I know it’s not ideal! I have passed along your question to my team for consideration, since I know how important it is that you be connected to multiple platforms. Hopefully this is something they can reconsider, but I can’t make a promise on their behalf. Thanks so much for your patience with us in the meantime and I hope you stick with us!

If there’s anything else we can do for you, please let me know.

I believe this is a problem with recent rate-limit changes on Runkeeper (or a bug in my code generating huge volumes of requests…) causing API calls during login to fail. This has been affecting all RK operations (sync, connection, disconnection) and I am currently investigating a fix.
