CuPy fails to autodetect CUDA root directory after successful ROCm installation.
See original GitHub issueI installed CuPy using the ROCm install instructions
$ export HCC_AMDGPU_TARGET=gfx1010,gfx1012 && export __HIP_PLATFORM_HCC__ && export CUPY_INSTALL_USE_HIP=1 && export ROCM_HOME=/opt/rocm
$ pip install --no-cache-dir cupy
Installation completed successfully, I can create a cupy ndarray, but attempting any operation on it results in the following error:
Python 3.7.6 (default, Jan 8 2020, 19:59:22)
[GCC 7.3.0] :: Anaconda, Inc. on linux
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import cupy as cp
>>> x = cp.array([1, 2, 3.])
>>> 2 * x

System is CuPy version 7.3.0, Linux Mint 19.3 on amd64, ROCm version 3.1.0 .
Thanks!

I will fix this by not looking
CUDA_PATH
when an AMD build is doneI got the specific example working by setting
CUDA_PATH=/opt/rocm
. I’ll send a PR adding this step to the docs. I neglected to mention that my graphics card is RX 5700 XT (gfx1010)
