Multidimensional array regression from NET 5 > 6 - The type Double[,] does not represent a sequence

After updating from NET 5 to .NET 6 (6.0.100) there appears to be a regression when mapping multidimensional entities.

The bug occurs on the 1st access of DbContext, and not when querying the table. It happens when querying any table, not just the one containing this entity.

Using latest matching 6.0.1 Npgsql Provider to access PostgreSQL. https://www.npgsql.org/efcore/mapping/array.html Note, I noticed a message in NpgSql documentation that implies multidimensional arrays aren’t supported by EF Core, but this clearly worked in NET5, so not sure what to make of that message (hoping it’s outdated). “Although PostgreSQL supports multidimensional arrays, these aren’t yet supported by the EF Core provider.”

Filing bug in this repo as stack trace is completely EF.

My entity class has a C# property that contains 2D array of floating point values

public double[,] Points { get; set; }

PostgreSQL datatype is a _float8, this is an array equivalent.

Sample SQL data (EF doesn’t actually get to selecting this)

I’ve found the source of the issue and will submit a PR to fix it soon.

In the meantime, you can work around this by configuring a value comparer explicitly, e.g.:
