`dotnet run -p` doesn't work with asp.net apps

Steps to reproduce

  1. dotnet new sln -o Project
  2. cd Project
  3. dotnet new console -o ConsoleNet then dotnet run -p ConsoleNet/ (works as expected)
  4. dotnet new mvc -o MvcNet then dotnet run -p MvcNet/MvcNet.csproj (got an exception)
  5. Or dotnet new angular -o AngularNet, cd AngularNet, npm i, cd .. then dotnet run -p AngularNet/ (another exception)

Expected behavior

The apps are working without any issue using dotnet run -p and not having to change the current directory to app’s location!

Actual behavior

Given that we don’t want to change this for all projects and that there was an issue for this in the web sdk repo, I am closing this one.

@badersur “it’s complicated”… for web projects this will be a good default to have. But for other projects that would not be the desired configuration (e.g. console app tool that you want to run inside a different directory dotnet run -p ../my/picture-util thisfile.png). I’ve opened and linked an issue for the Web SDK to consider defaulting this property for web projects.
