expand_sections always true

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

No.

Describe the solution you’d like

Could the documentation contain how one could make the expand_sections set to true or false by default. I would like to set expand_sections to be set to true automatically without me entering this manually each time.

@firasm - wanna open up a new issue to discuss adding expand_sections back in? It would require new development since the machinery for the sidebar has changed, so we should track it as a new feature.

hi @selimonat I believe expand_sections is no longer an option actually (in the newest sphinx-book-theme release). Instead, you will see that the ToC now contains collapsible sections, and the initial expanded depth I think can be controlled in the _config.yml

sphinx:
  config:
    html_theme_options:
      show_navbar_depth: 1

(see also https://sphinx-book-theme.readthedocs.io/en/latest/configure.html#control-the-depth-of-the-left-sidebar-lists-to-expand)

we should actually update this in jupyter-book though to allow:

html:
  show_navbar_depth: 1
