Android 12 issues with High Accuracy mode notification start and stop with BT triggers

See original GitHub issue

Home Assistant Android version: beta-1626-edc4142

Android version: Android 12, November 5 security patches

Phone model: Pixel 6 (earlier model report as Pixel 5)

Home Assistant version: 2021.10.7

Last working Home Assistant release (if known):

Description of problem: After some fixes in issue #1813 I joined the android beta to test out the latest version with the fix. I appear to be having at least two separate issues so I’m describing the simpler one here with a device that is a simple bluetooth headset - Plantronics Voyager Edge.

I have the HA app set for background access, non-optimized mode. I have the HA app configured to trigger High Accuracy mode when connected to a list of BT devices.

  • When one of the devices connects while phone is on and unlocked at the home screen I do not see the High Accuracy notification appear. As soon as I open the HA app the notification appears.

log file: homeassistant_companion_log_10-10-2021_16-47-55.txt

  • With the HA app in the foreground, when the same device is then turned off and BT shows it is disconnected, the notification stays in place until I open the HA menu to App Configuration, then it goes away. This of course happens when I go to get the logs for this case.

log file: homeassistant_companion_log_10-10-2021_16-48-44.txt

  • Starting again with the Home Screen in foreground with the same BT device connected and the High Accuracy notification showing and i turn off the BT device, BT shows it disconnected but the notification stays then goes away as soon as I open the HA app.

log file: homeassistant_companion_log_10-10-2021_16-48-44.txt

With Android 11, at least for ~6 months or so, the High Accuracy mode notification came and went in the background automatically without opening the HA app. Traceback (if applicable, to get the logs you may refer to: https://companion.home-assistant.io/docs/troubleshooting/faqs/#android-crash-logs):

earlier this morning i changed the bluetooth sensors and did a quick but not rigorous test (just woke up, no ☕) and it appeared to be working. the below log was the first test after that where i connected the device but the notification did not appear. i opened the app and the notification still did not appear so i checked the config settings and then grabbed this log.

There is no sign in the log that a Bluetooth device has been connected. But since it works now you can check if it shows up again.

sure thing. 👍 i turned on bluetooth connection and bluetooth state sensors and definitely works as expected (except for once).

I will analyze this in more detail whether the Bluetooth trigger for the high accuracy mode also works without the Bluetooth sensors.

Enjoy your ☕ 😄

just checking in as the phone and app had a few updates, is this still an issue?

thanks for checking. unfortunately, i can’t verify since i’ve been away traveling and not using the high accuracy trigger feature since mid-december before the updates came out. i’ll close this and #1905 since i won’t be able to test for another few weeks and i’ll open another issue if it is still there.
