google maps doesn't work in emulator

Current behavior:

Expected behavior: expect: map displays with pin

Steps to reproduce:

Clone ionic-conference-app
Follow setup instructions
“cordova add platform ios”
ionic build ios
ionic emulate ios
click “Map” result: empty map display screen

clean ionic conference app also tried w/ ?apikey=<js api key> on google scripts include
