Stuck on an issue?

Lightrun Answers was designed to reduce the constant googling that comes with debugging 3rd party libraries. It collects links to all the places you might be looking at while hunting down a tough bug.

And, if you’re still stuck at the end, we’re happy to hop on a call to see how we can help out.

Sort on timestamp should be maintained after closing and reopening a library

See original GitHub issue

JabRef version

5.7 (latest release)

Operating system

Windows

Details on version and operating system

win64 latest

Checked with the latest development build

  • I made a backup of my libraries before testing the latest development version.
  • I have tested the latest development version and the problem persists

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

  1. Sort on timestamp
  2. close the library
  3. open the library the sort on timestamp is lost. the sort order can not be envisaged from the fields shown: group color; linked files; linked identifiers; Entry type; Author/Editor; Title; Year; Journal/Booktitle; Timestamp.

This sort on Timestamp has been possible for quite some time. It was lost during one of the updates. It would be a pleasure to have it back.

@michaela559 As a general advice for newcomers: check out https://github.com/JabRef/jabref/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md for a start. Also, https://devdocs.jabref.org/getting-into-the-code/guidelines-for-setting-up-a-local-workspace is worth having a look at. Feel free to ask if you have any questions here on GitHub or also at JabRef’s Gitter chat.

Try to open a (draft) pull request early on, so that people can see you are working on the issue and so that they can see the direction the pull request is heading towards. This way, you will likely receive valuable feedback.

@bernhard-kleine by the way, JabRef 5.7 features the new “Automatic field editor” by @HoussemNasri , which can be found under edit > automatic field editor. If you wanted, you could copy or move data from the “timestamp” field to modificationdate or creationdate fields.

There also is this preference:

grafik

so you would not need to create a timestamp manually anymore.
