Feature Request: Add option to highlight the first n occurrences of a word
See original GitHub issueWould love an option to only highlight the first n occurrences of a word. I’m working on a website for a conservation agency and words like conservation
, and species
among others are often highlighted 10+ times.
Being able to limit the number of times a single word is highlighted would reduce the visual burden of the highlighter on my users.

Awesome, thanks @julmot! I’m going to make the move from my implementation to yours just as soon as I have the time.
I’m currently working on a responsive redesign the Southeast Region of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service website. We’ll use Mark.js as part of our glossary feature. We’ll wrap our glossary terms in a class as a hook for a click handler that triggers the off-canvas glossary to help our users understand scientific and bureaucratic terms.
I very much appreciate your work and the addition of this feature!
