It would be nice to have an option for linking the new note inline

Interesting idea of replacing the content in place with an embed of that content in another file. There are a few ways to do this. Were you thinking of a config setting to always embed extracted and/or split notes or would you want a separate command for this?
There are already 4 separate commands used by this plugin so I’m a little reluctant to introduce more! However, that might be the right option if you (and others) think that embedding of linked extracted/split would be useful to have but depending on the context rather than as standard practice. The latter would lend itself more to a config setting.
