Proposal: New subtle icon button style
See original GitHub issueProposal: Create new subtle icon button style
Summary
The new Microsoft Store created a new style for subtle icon buttons. It would be great if this style was included in winui 2 library so other apps can use it. Here’s a gif of the subtle icon button style in the new Microsoft Store.
Rationale
- This style is great for scenarios when devs just want to show an icon without any button border around it
Scope
Capability | Priority |
---|---|
Developers can use this style using StaticResource SubtleIconButtonStyle |
Must |
Important Notes
Because I’m on the store engineering team, I’d be happy to create the PR for this and bring our style over to WinUI. If this sounds good with the WinUI team, just let me know and I’ll make the PR asap.

@dpaulino +1 for this idea! Would be really useful to have.

I have my own style for doing basically the same exact thing (called ClearButtonStyle on my end). It would be great to pull this into the framework itself as it’s one less style to keep synced.
