Auto-generated English audio not playing on mobile

Describe the bug Auto-generated English appears as an option on mobile but doesn’t play any audio when selected.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to the first Fractions exploration - ‘What is a Fraction?’
  2. Open the voiceover menu
  3. Click on ‘English (auto)’

Observed behavior No audio plays (pre-recorded audio plays fine).

Expected behavior Auto-generated audio should play.

Smartphone (please complete the following information; delete this section if the issue does not arise on smartphones):

  • Device: iPhone 8
  • OS: iOS 13.3.1
  • Browser: Safari
  • Version: release-2.9.2

Hi, sorry for the delayed response. Please fix this bug with high priority. The reasons I think this need not necessarily blocking is

  1. We have got feedback from the user studies that auto generated audio doesn’t help learners as much as they don’t really understand what is said.
  2. This happens on a specific browser, and most likely has broken due to unknown reasons, which need not necessarily have originated from our code changes.
  3. Zaman mentions that this would take long to fix and as I believe, as per point 1, we can fix this for May release.

Does this suffice? @mzaman07 could you fix this before the first weekend of May? And @vojtechjelinek please reassign this to blocking bugs once you complete this release.
