Conda not working with Spyder

This might not be an issue with spyder but my best guess is that it is. Feel free to point out where I could be wrong.
Since the latest Spyder update I am not being able to update any package with conda. In order to understand the cause I deleted the whole environment and created a new one but even the simplest dependencies break.
My guess is that spyder is the problem given that I started getting the issue at the same time I received a notification about an available upgrade (did not upgrade). Also doing any other conda environment creation without the spyder dependency works.
What steps reproduce the problem?
From the anaconda prompt run: conda create --name myenv python spyder
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would expect a normal env creation as it happens for when not having spyder as a dependency. For example:
conda create --name myenv python

The message since it stopped working has been the same (either for updating new packages or for creating and env from scratch). I have already ran a cache clean of conda with conda clean --index-cache --lock --tarballs --packages --source-cache with no change at all.
