Spyder 5.1.5 Crashes the conda environment

Problem Description
After updating anaconda and spyder using “conda update anaconda --all” and “conda install spyder=5”, I attempt to run spyder from the base environment, “>anaconda3>spyder” and the error message is “link image0 hasen’t been detected!” at this point, spyder actually seems to launch and I see the first screen displayed but there is no functionality. If I close the spyder screen, it closes the conda environment and I end up back in normal command prompt. I can repeat this sequence over and over again.
What steps reproduce the problem?

I expect the spyder 5.1.5 GUI but instead it crashes the anaconda virtual environment

I finally got a chance to do this recommended install for spyder 5.3.0 and it works perfectly with not errors or warnings. Thanks for the suggestion.
