Here is how a solved the issue

youtube-dl -f best https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvccY97SZX0

Please, articulate more in detail your explanation. Why a missing format is requested by the script by default and how can I determine the correct value for the -f parameter?

[EDIT] for whom it may concern (i.e., for those who have the same issue and did not understand the suggestion given above): I eventually solved my problem by passing the “-f best” parameter.
